On Tuesday, San Diego County faced multiple wildfires, leading to evacuations, school closures, and power outages. The Lilac Fire, burning in Bonsall, grew to 85 acres and forced 86 residents to evacuate. The Pala Fire, burning north of Pala Mesa, scorched 17 acres. The Riverview Fire consumed one acre, and the Friars Fire burned 15-20 acres near Mission Valley.

As of Tuesday afternoon, over 64,000 homes and businesses in Ventura, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Riverside counties had lost power. Firefighters in Los Angeles County made progress against two deadly wildfires that had claimed 28 lives and destroyed over 15,000 structures.

Officials Gain Control of Lilac Fire

By Tuesday afternoon, authorities had gained some control over the Lilac Fire. Fire crews continued to build containment lines and extinguish hot spots. The forward rate of spread had been stopped, and two of the three initial fires were under control.

Red Flag Warnings Issued as Strong Winds Persist

Red flag warnings remained in effect across Southern California, warning of strong wind gusts that could fan the flames and cause power outages. Winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph were expected in San Diego County, while winds in the mountains could reach 80-90 mph. Officials urged residents to stay vigilant and prepare for possible evacuations.

School Districts Close Amid Fire Danger

Multiple school districts in San Diego County closed on Tuesday due to high winds, fire danger, and power outages. The closures included Bonsall Unified School District, Julian Union Elementary School District, and Warner Unified School District.

Latest on the Palisades and Eaton Fires

The Palisades Fire encompassed 23,713 acres and was 65% contained, while the Eaton Fire covered 14,021 acres and was 89% contained. Firefighters focused on extinguishing hot spots and addressing hazards. Evacuation orders were being reassessed to ensure safe returns.

Strong Winds Recorded Across Southern California

The National Weather Service reported high wind gusts across Southern California, including 102 mph in San Diego County’s Sill Hill, 88 mph in Hauser Mountain, and 83 mph in Banning, Riverside County.
