“It’s a different chapter, for sure,” McCoy said in an exclusive interview with The Arizona Republic. “But I’m grateful for the time I had in the NFL, and I’m excited about what lies ahead.”
After a seven-season NFL career spent with the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Arizona Cardinals, McCoy announced his retirement in 2022. With 71 career starts and nearly 15,000 passing yards, he left a memorable mark on the game.
However, McCoy acknowledges that transitioning to life after the NFL can be challenging. “The adrenaline rush of game day is hard to replicate,” he admitted. “But I’ve found other ways to fill that void.”
One such way is through coaching. McCoy is currently an offensive assistant with the University of Texas at Austin, where he reunited with former head coach Steve Sarkisian.
“I’ve always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others,” McCoy said. “Coaching allows me to stay involved in the game and make a difference in the lives of young players.”
Beyond football, McCoy is also pursuing his interests in entrepreneurship and philanthropy. He is a co-founder of Athletes for Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of athletes.
“I want to use my platform to inspire others and give back to the community,” McCoy said. “I believe that even though my playing days are over, I can still make a positive impact.”
McCoy’s transition serves as a reminder that athletes’ lives extend beyond their professional careers. By embracing new challenges and leveraging their experiences, they can find success and fulfillment in various fields.
As for the future, McCoy remains open-minded about what may come next. “I’m not sure exactly what the next chapter holds,” he said with a smile. “But I’m excited to embrace it and see where it takes me.”
