Phoenix, Arizona – Phoenix Suns veteran point guard Chris Paul recently bestowed high praise upon former UConn star Stephon Castle, who currently plays for the Suns’ G League affiliate, the Northern Arizona Suns.
“Stephon has got a bright future ahead of him,” Paul said. “He’s a talented young player with a great work ethic and an even better attitude. He’s going to be a star in this league someday.”
Castle, a 23-year-old guard, was a standout performer for UConn, leading the team to the NCAA Final Four in 2019. He was drafted by the Orlando Magic in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft but was later waived and signed by the Suns.
Despite not yet making his NBA debut, Castle has impressed Suns coaches and teammates with his skillset and determination. He is known for his quickness, playmaking ability, and defensive intensity.
“Stephon has a great feel for the game,” Suns head coach Monty Williams said. “He’s able to make reads and decisions quickly, which is rare for a young player.”
Castle’s performance in the G League has also been noteworthy. He is averaging 18.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.
If Castle continues to develop at this rate, he could soon become a valuable addition to the Suns’ rotation. The team is currently in contention for a playoff spot and could use another player who can provide scoring and playmaking.
Paul’s praise of Castle is a testament to the former UConn star’s potential. With hard work and dedication, he could fulfill his dream of becoming an NBA star.
