Haynes King's Resurgence As Georgia Tech's QB Stems From A

Haynes King’s Resurgence as Georgia Tech’s QB Stems from a “Newfound Clarity”

In the realm of college football, quarterbacks often steal the spotlight. Haynes King, the once-promising signal-caller who transferred to Georgia Tech in 2023, has recently emerged as a beacon of hope for the Yellow Jackets.

A Troubled Past in College Station

King’s journey to Atlanta began in College Station, Texas, where he was once hailed as the future of the Texas A&M Aggies. However, injuries and inconsistent play plagued his time there, leading to his eventual departure.

A Fresh Start in Atlanta

“Coming to Georgia Tech is like getting a second chance,” King said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to prove myself again.”

Under the tutelage of head coach Geoff Collins, King has embraced a new offensive scheme that suits his strengths as a dual-threat quarterback. Offensive coordinator Chip Long has tailored the playbook to King’s ability to make plays with his legs and arm.

Finding His Confidence

Assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach Buster Faulkner believes King’s resurgence stems from a “newfound clarity” in his approach to the game.

“He’s trusting his instincts and not overthinking things,” Faulkner said. “He’s playing with a lot more confidence.”

Statistical Success

The numbers support the observation. In the first three games of the season, King has thrown for 635 yards and six touchdowns, while also rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

A Bright Future

As Georgia Tech embarks on the remainder of its season, King’s resurgence bodes well for the Yellow Jackets’ hopes of improving on their 3-9 record from 2022.

“Haynes is a game-changer,” Collins said. “We’re excited to see what else he can accomplish this year and beyond.”
