Kent State Men’s Basketball Off To Strong Start With Transfer Players Leading The Charge
The Kent State Golden Flashes men’s basketball team is off to a strong start this season, with a 3-1 record, thanks in large part to the contributions of their transfer players.
Transfer Players Making an Immediate Impact
Graduate transfer guard Sincere Carry, who came to Kent State from Pitt, is leading the team in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. He is also second on the team in assists, with 4.5 per game. Sophomore guard Malique Jacobs, who transferred from Cal, is also averaging double figures, with 10.8 points per game. He is also leading the team in steals, with 2.3 per game.
“Our transfer players have been a huge part of our success so far this season,” said Kent State coach Rob Senderoff. “They bring a lot of experience and talent to our team, and they’ve really helped us to gel as a unit.”
Balanced Scoring Attack
In addition to the contributions of their transfer players, the Golden Flashes have also gotten solid production from their returning players. Junior forward Danny Pippen, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, is averaging 9.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Senior guard Giovanni Santiago is averaging 8.8 points per game, and sophomore forward Miryne Thomas is averaging 7.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
“We have a lot of guys who can score the basketball,” said Senderoff. “That makes us a tough matchup for opponents, because they can’t just focus on one or two guys. We’re a balanced team, and that’s one of our strengths.”
Looking Ahead
The Golden Flashes will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 15, when they host the Akron Zips. They will then open Mid-American Conference play on Saturday, Nov. 19, when they travel to face the Toledo Rockets.
“We’re excited about the season,” said Senderoff. “We have a lot of potential, and we think we can make a run in the MAC. We just have to stay focused and keep working hard.”
