Ewers sustained the injury during Tuesday’s practice. Sarkisian said the oblique strain is minor but is limiting his mobility. Ewers is currently undergoing treatment and his status will be reevaluated on Thursday.
If Ewers is unable to play, the backup quarterback role will fall to Hudson Card. Card started the first three games of the season before Ewers took over as the starter. Card has thrown for 888 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception this season.
Ewers has been a key part of Texas’s offense this season, passing for 910 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. His absence would be a significant loss for the Longhorns, especially with the team facing a challenging schedule in the coming weeks.
“Quinn is a tough kid, and we’re hoping he can play on Saturday,” Sarkisian said. “But we’re not going to rush him back. We’re going to make sure he’s 100% healthy before we put him back on the field.”
Ewers’s status for Saturday’s game remains uncertain. If he is unable to play, Card is a capable backup and should be able to lead the offense effectively. However, Ewers’s absence would be a setback for Texas as they look to continue their momentum after a 4-0 start to the season.
